Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has sacked six ministers in a recent cabinet reshuffle.
They include the ministers of women’s affairs, education, tourism, youth development and the minister of state for housing and urban development.
The presidency also announced the scrapping of some federal ministries and realignment of others.
The Ministry of Niger Delta is renamed the Ministry of Regional Development, incorporating all regional development bodies such as the North-East, North West, and other development commissions.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, announced this while briefing State House correspondents after a meeting of the Federal Executive Council on Wednesday.
The minister said the Ministry of Sports has been wound down and that sporting activities will now be under the National Sports Commission.
Idris said Tinubu has ordered the scrapping of the Ministry of Tourism, and its activities will now be under a renamed Ministry of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy.
Tinubu’s decision comes amid calls for the presidency to reduce the cost of governance and international financial institutions advising the scrapping or merging of ministries.
