It’s been one hell of a year – and Afropop star Davido catches the mood with his new album A Better Time.
Davido was elevated to superstar status when his song Fem became the anthem for Nigerian youth protesting against police brutality and corruption.
Davido didn’t plan a new album, just yet, but because of the cancellation of his world tour due to Covid, he has made this new, highly anticipated album – and what a mouthwatering treat it promises to be.
The album features a galaxy of co-stars, including some of the biggest names in world music.
American rappers Nicki Minaj and Nas are featured on Holy Ground and Birthday Cake and there is a guest appearance from South African rapper Sho Madjozi.
A number of other African rappers are on the tracks including Nigeria’s Mayorkun and Ghana’s Mugeez. America’s hit star Li’l Baby is co-star of So Crazy and Chris Brown and Young Thug are on Shopping Spree.
A Better Time is coming out a year after his best-selling LP A Good Time. He did not plan a new album but it happened after his world tour was cancelled due to COVID.
“I got back in the studio, and funny enough, I was making better music than I had previously dropped, and we just kept going,” Davido told Rolling Stone magazine. “Before I knew it I had 20 songs in the studio, all done and recorded and finished. Then I was like, ‘Should I just put it out?’”
