As long ago as December when Barcelona was drawn against Paris Saint Germain (PSG) in the UEFA Champions League match, fans started talking about the Neymar versus Lionel Messi duel, but injury has deprived Spanish fans of seeing their star taking on his old teammates for the first time since he left Barca in 2018.
Barca versus PSG is undoubtedly the biggest fixture in the league this week.
The two giants of Europe will do battle at Camp Nou in Barcelona on Tuesday at 10pm.
Neymar suffered a groin injury last Wednesday in PSG’s match against Ligue 2 team Caen and is expected to be out for at least four weeks which could also rule him out of the return leg match in Paris on 10 March. This is the second time this season that Neymar has strained his left adductor.
In 2018, the Brazilian missed the second leg against Real Madrid.
In 2019 he missed both games against Manchester United and now against Barcelona. In those matches PSG were knocked out.
Last year he was available in the knockout phase for the first time since moving to France and PSG reached the final where they lost 1-0 to Bayern Munich.
The other big name player that will miss the trip is PSG’s midfielder Angel Di Maria with a thigh injury.
In the other match on Tuesday RB Leipzig host Liverpool at Puskas Arena at 10pm.
