The Cabinet has approved that people who have tested positive for Covid-19 will no longer be subjected to a 10 day isolation period.

“Those who test positive with no symptoms do not have to be isolated. If you tested positive with symptoms the isolation period has been reduced from 10 to 7 days,” said Minister in the Presidency, Mondli Gungubele in a statement on Monday.

He said the decision was taken after a meeting of the National CoronaVirus Council (NCC) and the President’s Coordinating Council (PCC).

Gungubele said the information gathered through the system used by the Department of Health has reported that South Africa has exited the fourth wave nationally.

The NCC have also decided that those who have had contact with Covid-19 patients do not have to be isolated unless they develop symptoms.

The decision is part of the adjusted alert level 1 that was taken with immediate effect.

The NCC have also announced that the country has officially moved away from the fourth wave which didn’t have much dangerous impact on citizens.

Due to the new regulations the cabinet have also taken a decision that the schooling will resume full time.

The Cabinet has also removed the  regulatory provision for social distancing of 1 meter for learners in schools.

“The Ministers of Health and Basic Education will in the coming days issue directives reflecting this new approach,”  the statement reads.

“We remind those who are yet to get vaccinated to go for their COVID-19 vaccination and continue observing basic health protocols.”
