A celebration for Nandi Nyembe will be held on 28 April at Disoufeng in Soweto to honour the much-loved actress for her powerful work in television, film and theatre.

The event comes after Nandi bravely spoke about her difficult health journey. In a video posted by Masingita Masunga from the Above Normal Foundation, the 55-year-old actress shared that she now uses a wheelchair and is going through a tough time.

Her story touched hearts across the country.

Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Nandi said: “South Africans have come out for me to help me, and I’m out of words with the forever love and support. They heard my plea, and I’m looking forward to the event next week.”

Disoufeng, the well-known Soweto pub and restaurant hosting the event, said online: “Let’s raise our glasses to the amazing life of Mam’ Nandi Nyembe. She is a true star whose work has touched many lives. Now it’s our turn to show her how much we care.”

Everyone is welcome to join — whether by attending, bringing something, or simply showing love.
