In his first press conference as Kaizer Chiefs coach, Nasreddine Nabi promised Amakhosi fans that he will fight for every point in the upcoming season.

Chiefs want to end the dominance of rivals Mamelodi Sundowns, who have won the PSL title seven times in a row, and to end their own nine-year trophy drought.

Nabi, who previously coached Young Africans (Tanzania) and AS FAR Rabat (Morocco), has just returned with Chiefs from a preseason training camp in Turkey.

“I am honoured to be in South Africa, this great country, a true African nation,” Nabi said at Naturena on Friday, ahead of the Toyota Cup friendly match against Young Africans at Free State Stadium on Sunday.

He thanked club owner Kaizer Motaung, and officials Jessica, Kemiso, Bobby, and Kaizer Junior for a great welcome.

“I also thank the supporters for the warm welcome they gave me at the airport. I will do my best to reward them with a great season,” he said.

Nabi appreciated Kaizer Junior for including them in the Turkey preseason camp, speaking on its success and the importance of getting away from the pressures of Johannesburg after a challenging end to the season.

“It was crucial for us to be part of the preseason camp in Turkey to get to know the players,” Nabi added.

“It was also important for the new staff and coaches to bond with the players. We played a few games, and although they were not up to my expectations, we will improve.”
