It’s not every day you get to hear a person who calls himself “ibhinca” preaching unity, as those who live the amabhinca lifestyle are known for being short-tempered.
But one cannot say the same thing about Mzobe.
Mzobe, whose full name is Ntethelelo Khanyisani Mzobe, is a budding maskandi artist from Mandeni in KwaZulu-Natal.
He recently released a single titled “Thina MaBhinca” that preaches unity and peace amongst amabhinca and maskandi artists.
“I’m an entertainer. I believe that I was born to heal, teach and fight social ills with my music and it’s exactly what I’m doing,” said Mzobe, who released the single on Friday, 19 August.
“My aim with this single is to unite amabhinca, promote amabhinca culture and maskandi music and get people to understand us as amabhinca, including the culture.”
“Thina MaBhinca” is not the first project the 33-year-old, who now resides in KwaMaphumulo, has released this year.
The artist had started the year with a single track on 14 January titled “Thongalam” before releasing an EP titled Umfazi Uyabethelwa with seven songs including “Thongalam” on 3 June.
Meanwhile Mzobe, who has worked with other artists like Mamillion and Blanket, said his maskandi music is not only for older people; it can still be enjoyed by young people.
“Maskandi is just a genre and by being a maskandi artist that doesn’t take away the fact that I’m still young and I’m aware of what is happening around me.
“Young people, especially even those who enjoy Afro-pop, will enjoy this single,“ added Mzobe, who is expected to start a tour in parts of KZN and Gauteng to promote the new single.
