Fans have raised more than R280,000 for kwaito star L’vovo Derrango, after he spoke publicly for the first time about surviving a stroke in December 2022.

The fundraiser, organised by Yenziwe Qiniso Ndimande, began this week after his interview on Gagasi FM. Ndimande says she now wants the fund to reach R300,000 by tonight.

L’vovo, whose real name is Thokozani Ndlovu, told Gagasi FM he collapsed on stage while performing, spent weeks fighting for his life in intensive care, and has faced serious financial and emotional strain since. The stroke left him unable to record music or perform, forced him to move back home, and affected his speech.

The interview moved listeners across the country. Ndimande said the fundraiser was entirely the public’s own initiative.

“Please note that L’vovo did not ask for donations. Many people were touched by his interview, and from there, we decided to come together and support him,” she said.

Donations have come in from ordinary fans and fellow musicians alike, including maskandi star Khuzani and DJ Tira.

L’vovo has since thanked those who’ve supported him.

“The kindness you have shown me has been overwhelming. There were moments in my journey when I felt uncertain about what tomorrow would look like, but your support has reminded me that God places people in our lives to lift us up when we need it most,” he said, confirming that every donation will go toward his physiotherapy and rehabilitation.

He told TshisaLIVE the money will also help fund a new project he’s planning, focused on mental wellness.

“I have a bigger calling of sharing my testimony and educating people on mental wellness, depression, healing and mental strength,” he said.
