- Social media star Musa Khawula remains in jail after his lawyer asks for more time to prepare his bail application.
- The blogger faces multiple charges for allegedly harmful posts about a businessman, plus separate murder and driving charges.
Controversial social media blogger Musa Khawula will spend another week in jail after his bail hearing was postponed by the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
His lawyer, Ofentse Nkgwang, told the court she wasn’t ready to proceed with the bail application as she still needed more information.
The 33-year-old, known as the “Pope of Pop Culture,” was arrested last week for posts he made about businessman Zee Nxumalo on X in October 2024.
He faces charges of crimen injuria, breaking cybercrime laws, and hate speech. Police say his posts were meant to harm Nxumalo’s reputation.
Nxumalo first went to the High Court to force Khawula to take down the posts and apologise publicly. When Khawula ignored the court order, Nxumalo opened a criminal case.
Gauteng NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane said Khawula now also faces contempt of court charges for disobeying the High Court ruling.
Despite being in custody, Khawula appeared positive in court, smiling and waving at people in the gallery.
The blogger, famous for exposing celebrities’ secrets on social media, has other legal troubles. He faces a murder charge in the Western Cape and has a warrant out for reckless driving.
His bail application will now be heard on 29 January.
