- Two of his armed bodyguards were arrested at court with illegal rifles and fake licence discs.
- Alleged underworld kingpin Katiso “KT” Molefe made a brief appearance at the Alexandra Magistrates Court on Monday under heavy police and private security guard.
The 61-year-old and three co-accused — Michael Tau, Tiego Mabusela and Musa Kekana — appeared in connection with multiple murder and conspiracy charges.
Molefe is accused of masterminding the killings of musician Oupa “DJ Sumbody” Sefoka, his two bodyguards, and DJ Vintos, whose real name was Hector Buthelezi. He was arrested by the South African Police Service (SAPS) Political Killings Task Team in July 2025.
Outside court, chaos unfolded as two of Molefe’s personal bodyguards were arrested for carrying illegal firearms. The men, aged 24 and 36, were found with two semi-automatic AKM rifles and live ammunition — with no valid permits.
SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said the weapons were discovered during a routine check.
“The vehicle transporting the bodyguards was also seized after it was found that the licence disc did not match the number plates,” said Mathe.
Inside court, Molefe walked in wearing a denim jacket, jeans and a white T-shirt, flanked by private security. He stood alongside his co-accused in the dock as the State moved to centralise all related dockets into a single case.
Prosecutors said the charges stem from a network of killings, plots and illegal firearms traced across Gauteng.
“The matter is ready to be transferred to the Gauteng High Court,” said the State. “We propose a date of 5 February 2026. All the accused will be responsible for arranging their own legal representation.”
Molefe was previously denied bail by the Alexandra Magistrates Court, but later granted bail of R400,000 by the High Court in October 2025.
