Golden Arrows stunned Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 at FNB Stadium on Sunday evening to book their place in the last four of the MTN8, alongside Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns and Sekhukhune United.
Amakhosi dominated possession and created the better openings in the first half.
In the 28th minute Luke Baartman teed up Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, who fired over; and on the stroke of half-time Ngcobo was denied again from close range by Edward Maova.
At the other end Brandon Petersen kept Arrows out twice, stopping Philani Khumalo in the 14th minute and again on the half hour mark. It was goalless at the break.
Chiefs kept pressing after the restart but were caught against the run of play.
Khulekani Shezi made an overlapping run down the right in the 53rd minute and surprised Petersen with a near-post finish to put Arrows 1-0 up.
Coach Fernando Da Cruz threw on marquee signing Langelihle Phiri in the 63rd minute as Chiefs chased an equaliser, but Maova stood firm and the backline held.
The clash was the only quarter-final tie to end in 90 minutes, with all three other games going through to extra time.
Pirates put Durban City away 2-1 courtesy of Thapelo Mokobodi’s 120th minute winner before Cassius Mailula helped Sundowns to 3-2 win over Polokwane City with his late winner.
Sekhunene United’s 4-3 victory over AmaZulu had the most goals with Vuyo Vandala getting the extra time winner in that one.
The semi-final draw has been made. Sekhukhune United will face Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns will take on Golden Arrows. Dates and times for the matches are yet to be confirmed.
