A group of suspects were arrested in Mpumalanga following a string of armed robberies targeting a church and a tavern.
The incidents occurred between Friday 5 September and Saturday 6 September.
During the church robbery, a 14-year-old was injured when the suspects opened fire. The child received medical attention at a local hospital.
The suspects were apprehended by the Mpumalanga Provincial anti-hijacking task team and dog unit on the N4.
They were found with multiple cellphones, a laptop, cash, and three 9mm pistols with ammunition.
The five suspects will appear in the Kanyamazane Magistrate’s Court, facing charges including possession of unlicensed firearms.
In a separate incident, a 22-year-old suspect was fatally shot after robbing a mosque, where three others were injured.
The SAPS condemned the incidents, vowing to crack down on robberies at places of worship.
