A 35-year-old woman was shot dead while carrying her baby on her back during a robbery in Lower Crossroads, Cape Town.

She had just fetched her children from the creche and was walking home when five armed men approached her.

The woman ran into her yard but the attackers chased her. She screamed for her neighbour, who was then also forced into the house.

Inside, the suspects demanded money, phones and the PIN for her banking app. The robbery happened in front of the victim’s children.

Neighbours believe the attackers may have known she recently received stokvel money.

Western Cape police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk confirmed a murder case has been opened. He said no arrests have been made.

Police appealed to anyone with information to call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
