Seven medical professionals have been allegedly charged following the untimely death of Diego Maradona.
Maradona passed away at age 60 in November 2020 after suffering a heart attack. Reports suggest that the health workers involved in treating the iconic footballer have been charged with ‘simple homicide with eventual intent’.
The daughter of the 1986 FIFA World Cup winner voiced her concern on how Doctor Leopoldo Luque treated her father and his condition, sparking the investigation against the medical team. Dr. Luque has defended himself in a television interview, emotionally stating that the Argentinian football legend refused to go to a rehabilitation centre.
Leaked text messages from the Doctor and his colleague showed the pair mocking Maradona on the day of his passing, adding further insult to injury in the case against them.
Despite his troubled life off the field, Maradona was a generational talent who was ahead of his time in football. The number 10 transformed football and the mold of what it meant to be a footballer. A real lover of the game and one that was obsessed with football until the final day.
