  • Kaizer Chiefs star Aden McCarthy shook off tight leg muscles and is fully fit to face Siwelele on Wednesday night.
  • Kaizer Chiefs are chasing a victory over Siwelele to pull eight points clear of AmaZulu in the current league table.

Kaizer Chiefs defender Aden McCarthy hunts a special victory in Bloemfontein on Wednesday night. The match against Siwelele brings back proud family memories for the young player.

His father, Fabian McCarthy, kicked off his football career at Bloemfontein Celtic.

“Playing in Bloemfontein has sentimental meaning for me because it is where my father started playing,” McCarthy said.

The 22-year-old star says he is completely fit for the important match.

McCarthy gave Kaizer Chiefs fans a scare earlier in April. The coach pulled him off the field after 43 minutes during a goalless draw with Polokwane City.

But McCarthy bounced back quickly. He played the full 90 minutes in the Soweto derby against Orlando Pirates on Sunday. That match ended in a 1-1 draw.

“In the previous game against Polokwane I had a stiffness in my left hamstring,” he said.

He said the club took him off as a precaution and it was not an injury.

“We are going to Bloemfontein to play Siwelele and I am recovered and ready for the game,” he said.

Reports also show that McCarthy recently signed a new two-year contract with Kaizer Chiefs.

The team is pushing hard to qualify for the Confederation of African Football Confederation Cup next season. They are third on the log and have not lost in seven matches.

A win on Wednesday will push Kaizer Chiefs eight points clear of fourth-placed AmaZulu.

But beating coach Lehlohonolo Seema and his Siwelele team will be a tough task. Siwelele have lost only eight of their 25 league matches this season.

“Siwelele are a good team, they managed to draw with Pirates,” McCarthy said.

He said Kaizer Chiefs cannot overlook the Siwelele players and must push hard to grab all three points.
