The six-game goal rush produced upsets for both Manchester giants while Arsenal thumped Bournemouth before Aston Villa destroyed Brighton in the early Premier League clash.
For the first time in a decade, both City and United lost a Saturday 3 pm kick-off in the Premier League on the same day.
At Molineux, Hwang Hee-Chan got the winner for Wolves after a Ruben Dias own goal put Pep Guardiola’s side behind early on.
On the hour mark, Julian Alvarez struck a stunning free-kick to level matters. But the deadlock was broken once again eight minutes later as City lost their first league game of the campaign.
Joachim Andersen’s first-half goal was the winner at Old Trafford as Crystal Palace ensured the Red Devils were booed off the pitch as they lost back-to-back home games.
The Gunners, on the other hand, put four past Bournemouth at the Vitality to keep their unbeaten streak alive and move into second on the table.
The goal rush action also saw West Ham defeat Sheffield United 2-0, Luton defeat Everton 2-1 and Newcastle beat Burnley 2-0.
The lunchtime kickoff saw Villa put past six past Brighton with Ollie Watkins bagging a hatrick in an unstoppable 6-1 victory.
The late game presents an opportunity for Liverpool to go top of the table when they head to North London to face Tottenham Hotspur.
