A 20-year-old Limpopo matric learner was found stabbed to death on Sunday at the Ben Hlongwane High School in Tshamahansi in Mokopane.
The deceased, Phillimon Nkomo, had allegedly sneaked out of a school camp on Saturday night and gone to a tavern, where he was allegedly stabbed.
Nkomo’s body was found in the early hours of Sunday morning on the school premises.
The matriculant had been camping with other learners, studying and preparing for matric exams.
The police believe that after he was stabbed, Nkomo might have run to the school, where he collapsed behind one of the buildings and died.
Police spokesperson,Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, said school guardians told the police that the learner was apparently upset and angry after he was ordered to wash dishes as a punishment for misbehaving and sneaking out.
“When the guardians couldn’t find him, they called the police, who found him dead at the school premises with stab wounds,” Ledwaba said.
Provincial Education MEC Lerule-RamakhanyaIt said it was disturbing that two grade 12 learners were lost in one week under similar circumstances.
The incident happened three days after a learner drowned in Sekhukhune East, after he allegedly left school premises for a nearby river. His body was retrieved on Saturday afternoon, 5km from where he was last seen.
“The department urges parents, learners and society as a whole to work together to protect the youth and children,” said Lerule-Ramakhanya.
