- Armed robbers targeted Boxer Liquor in Langa on Friday afternoon, stealing money and alcohol from the store and robbing customers of their belongings.

Weekend drinking plans in Langa were ruined after criminals robbed the Boxer Liquor store and its customers on Friday afternoon.
Masked men stormed the shop around 1pm while people were queueing and shopping. One customer, who asked not to be named, said the robbers took everything they could.
“I knew that they were there to rob the shop, but I didn’t know that they would also take the customers’ weave, money and cell phones,” he said.
Shocked customers ran in different directions after being robbed.
“One of the customers was there to buy a case of brandy for a child who was going to initiation school; he was also robbed,” the customer said.
Langa resident Luyolo Dungayezi said the criminals went on a robbing spree.
“After robbing the customers, they came out and started robbing people of their phones and money. People went home crying, and they didn’t even bother going to the police station because they knew that the criminals wouldn’t be caught,” he said.
Captain FC Van Wyk from Western Cape SAPS said the store manager pressed a panic button when he saw the masked men enter. But when the police arrived, the robbers had already left.
The robbers took cash from the tills and boxes of liquor before escaping in a white Toyota LDV without number plates. No one was hurt, and no shots were fired.
Police are still investigating.
