- Four suspects appeared in court after being caught with a hijacked car at Nelson Mandela’s grandson’s house.
- Police found the stolen Toyota Corolla and an illegal gun at the Houghton property.
Four suspects caught with Nelson Mandela’s grandson in a hijacked car case appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
The court ordered that the suspects cannot be named or filmed until police conduct an identity parade this weekend. The case was postponed to 17 January for further investigation and possible bail applications.
Mandela’s grandson was not charged and was not among the four accused.
The suspects have asked Legal Aid South Africa to represent him.
The suspects face charges of possession of a hijacked car and an unlicensed firearm.
Johannesburg metro police arrested the group on Wednesday after a tracking company informed them of the location of a white Toyota Corolla.
The car had been hijacked on Louis Botha Avenue. Police tracked it to Mandela’s home in Houghton, where they also found an unlicensed firearm.
