Man shot dead at taxi rank linked to activist’s murder

  • A man linked to activist Pamela Mabini’s murder has been shot dead at a Gqeberha taxi rank in Kwazakhele.
  • Mabini was known for helping the poor and fighting for women’s rights before she was killed in her driveway.

A man whom police wanted to question about activist Pamela Mabini’s killing has been shot dead at a Gqeberha taxi rank.

Police found the 44-year-old man’s body at the taxi rank on the corner of Njoli and Daku roads in Kwazakhele on Tuesday at noon. He had been shot many times.

“The investigating officer confirmed that the deceased was a person of interest in the murder case of Pamela Mabini, 46, who was shot and killed on Friday in Tshauka Street, Kwazakhele,” said police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg.

Police are still looking for information about both murders. They want people to contact Detective Colonel Anthea Hector on 082-457-5036, Crime Stop on 08600-10111, or their nearest police station.

People can also use the MySAPS App to give anonymous tips.

Mabini was a well-known community leader who helped many people in need. She gave out food, hygiene products and school supplies to poor families. She also fought against the abuse of women and human trafficking.

She supported women who were testifying in the trial of Nigerian pastor Timothy Omotoso.

Many people knew her because she was always working to help others and fight for what was right.

Mabini was shot multiple times while sitting in her car in her driveway last Friday. Her funeral will be held at the Feathermarket Hall in Gqeberha CBD on Saturday 15 March.
