The Maphumulo and Gumede families have suffered another loss as Zamanguni Gumede better known as Ma Gumede has tragically passed away at Durban Hospital.
MaGumede, the mother of the late Gqom musician Mandla ’Mampintsha’ Maphumolo, passed away late on Sunday night at Durban’s Wentworth Hospital surrounded by her family.
“Ma Gumede knew she was about to die and she wanted to say farewell to her loved ones,” said her daughter, Pinky Gumede.
“She told me she was old and she was leaving.”
Ma Gumede’s health deteriorated rapidly after her son died of a stroke in December. She was 64.
The mother had also wanted to see Mampintsha’s son, Sponge, before she took her last breath, but the boy was not around.
This has sparked speculation that there may have been some unresolved issues between Mampintsha’s mother and Babes Wodumo, MaGumede’s daughter-in-law. MaGumede labelled Babes as disrespectful as she honoured her booking days after the Mampintsha’s passing. Babes’ fans rallied around the singer, calling the mother-in-law an attention seeker.
Mampintsha has been a prominent figure in the South African music industry for many years and is considered one of the pioneers of the kwaito genre. He released several albums and collaborated with many artists in the industry.
It seems all may not have been well with his relationship with his mother.
The Gumede family has requested privacy during this difficult time, but fans and followers can’t help but wonder what really happened between Mampintsha and his mother.
Mampintsha’s fans and followers have extended their condolences to the family during this difficult time.
