In an episode of Carte Blanche aired on M-Net on Sunday, South African millionaire Shauwn Mkhize, also known as MaMkhize, denied accusations of fraud and tax evasion.

The show posed the question on social media: “Does fame and fortune get you a clean slate, even with a background of fraud and alleged tax evasion?”

Despite the evidence shown, MaMkhize, supported by her lawyers, denied the fraud claims.

“But it can’t be me. That wasn’t me. It’s the company,” she said as she distanced herself from the allegations.

MaMkhize was convicted of fraud in 2005 and in 2012 was convicted for cheating the taxman out of R1.8-million. She was subsequently disqualified from running a business. She refused to comment on that.

The interview led to criticism on social media, with many suggesting that her appearance was a mistake and damaged her reputation.

“Every black billionaire tends to be targeted by white-owned media companies. Being black is like a curse,” a social media user wrote.
