Businesswoman Shauwn “MaMkhize” Mkhize and Sbu Mpisane are officially divorced following a six-year legal battle over their wealth.
The Durban High Court ended their 32-year marriage on Monday. The couple, who share a son, married in 1991.
Sources told Zimoja that the divorce took so long because MaMkhize wanted to retain all their assets, despite their marriage being in community of property.
Mpisane contested this, arguing that he had contributed to building their business empire, now worth hundreds of millions.
MaMkhize revealed her reasons for the separation on her reality show: “I think the small problem that led my marriage to divorce was that Sbu loved himself. I also loved Sbu. So, no one cared for me.”
Mpisane, when approached for comment, directed questions to the court. He said: “The papers are for public consumption. Shauwn is the author of the divorce. So, you’re free to speak to her because I don’t want her to sue me for speaking about things I don’t know.”
MaMkhize declined to comment.
