  • A 38-year-old man was arrested at a Pretoria filling station for the Mamelodi East murders of cousins Tshiamo and Baleseng Moramaga.
  • Police say a third person was also shot and is recovering in hospital. The suspect will appear in court on Wednesday, 29 October.

Police have arrested a 38-year-old man for the brutal murder of cousins Tshiamo and Baleseng Moramaga, who were shot dead in Mamelodi East, Tshwane, on Sunday morning.

The cousins, aged 22 and 21, were found with gunshot wounds to their heads on Sompisi Street in Extension 17 after a night out. Their deaths shocked the community and sparked a major police search for their killer.

Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko confirmed that the suspect was arrested on Monday, 27 October 2025, at a filling station in Pretoria.

A joint team of detectives from the Gauteng Provincial Serious and Violence Crime Unit, Provincial Crime Intelligence and Mamelodi East Detectives tracked him down after learning that a third victim survived the attack and is receiving hospital treatment.

The suspect faces two counts of murder and one of attempted murder. He is expected to appear before the Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 29 October 2025.

The Moramaga cousins were last seen on Saturday night, dressed alike in white skirts and black tops. They had spent the evening visiting family and were seen at a nearby tavern before being shot.

Their aunt, Maggie Moramaga, said the family is still in shock. “They walked me home that night. I never thought it would be the last time I’d see them,” she said.

The Aubrey Tau Foundation has offered a R250,000 reward for information that could help secure a conviction.
