- Mama Joy Chauke joins Vakhegula Vakhegula as their goalkeeper for the Grannies International Football Tournament in Limpopo from 2-5 April 2025.
- Teams from the USA, France, Kenya, Togo, Mauritius, and others will compete in the event for women aged 50+, launched by Mama Beka Foundation.
Superfan “Mama Joy” – real name Joy Chauke – will be joining Vakhegula Vakhegula (“Grannies Grannies”) when they return to the international football circuit next year.
The famous super-senior football team will participate in the upcoming Grannies International Football Tournament (Gift) in April 2025.
Mama Joy confirmed to Scrolla.Africa that the founder of Vakhegula Vakhegula, Beka Ntsanwisi, has signed her on as the goalkeeper of the South African grannies team.
She said she is excited to form part of a great team and to have the opportunity to represent the country on the soccer pitch, instead of on the grandstand, this time around.
Gift is an international tournament in which women aged 50 and above participate every two years.
The first edition of the tourney took place last year at Nkowankowa Stadium outside of Tzaneen in Limpopo, where the US team emerged victorious. The second edition of the Gift will take place at the same venue from 2-5 April next year.
Last week, the Mama Beka Foundation in partnership with the Limpopo Chamber of Commerce officially launched the tournament at Mercurius Motors in Polokwane.
Some of the countries that will participate include the USA, France, Kenya, Togo and Mauritius.
