Julius Malema took a swipe at Advocate Malesela Teffo who is representing four of the five suspects in the Senzo Meyiwa case, calling him disrespectful.
“I think he speaks loosely,” Malema said.
He added: “You know, I have chickens where I stay in Polokwane. Even if people steal those chickens, I will not call Advocate Teffo to represent me in the court of law.”
The EFF leader was speaking at a press conference held at the party’s headquarters in Johannesburg on Thursday.
Malema said he was sympathetic to Senzo Meyiwa’s case but not on the issue of Teffo. “He has made this whole case about him. That’s why we are sitting here being asked about Adv Teffo and not about whether we are happy or not about the ongoing case.”
He said Teffo has no skills at all and he has no respect for the bench. “If he belongs to any bar, they must take action against him.”
Teffo, he said, undermined everyone by uttering vulgar words inside the court. “You can’t use such words in a court of law.
“You can disrespect the judge but once he/she is sitting up there, he is the court. Teffo doesn’t deserve to be called an advocate.” People can be angry at situations, but the courts should be respected and protected.
Referring to Teffo claiming President Cyril Ramaphosa was involved in the Senzo case, Malema said the advocate throws people’s names around loosely and he doesn’t back up his claims. Ramaphosa has nothing to do with the case of Senzo Meyiwa.
Teffo, he said, is self-distracted and he has only himself to blame.
Weighing in on the Senzo Meyiwa case itself, Malema said the people who were present in the house when Meyiwa was killed know who killed him. “Personally, I am more than convinced that Kelly Khumalo knows something.
“Kelly Khumalo should be held accountable. But it must be done in an orderly manner so that its outcomes are not questionable.”
