- Blogger MusaKhawula posted claims on X on 25 February 2026 alleging that Malema’s marriage was falling apart because of supposed affairs.
- The couple’s lawyers sent Khawula a letter of demand on 26 February, threatening to sue him for R1-million in damages.
EFF leader Julius Malema and his wife Mantwa Matlala are threatening legal action against social media blogger Musa Khawula over posts he made about their marriage on X.
Khawula posted the messages on 25 February 2026. He alleged the couple’s marriage was falling apart because of Malema’s supposed affairs with other women.
He also claimed Matlala could no longer tolerate Malema’s behaviour. Khawula further claimed Malema tried to bribe him to stop the story from being published.
The couple’s lawyers, England Slabbert Attorneys Inc, sent Khawula a letter of demand on 26 February 2026. The letter called on Khawula to publicly apologise and formally withdraw his statements.
The lawyers said the allegations are false and defamatory. They said the claims have caused national ridicule and damaged the couple’s personal, political and professional reputations. They also said the posts have caused emotional distress to the couple’s children.
England Slabbert Attorneys Inc denied that Malema and Matlala are separated. The lawyers stated the couple remain married and that no divorce proceedings have taken place.
The lawyers also rejected the bribery allegation, saying it attacks Malema’s integrity and fitness to hold public office.
If Khawula does not apologise and remove the posts, the couple plan to approach the High Court for an interdict and damages. They also plan to report the matter to SAPS and lay criminal charges of crimen injuria.
Malema did not respond to calls or messages when contacted for comment. Khawula ended the call when asked for a response.
