- Chiefs defender Paseka Mako is back from injury and has been included in the team to face Al Masry in Egypt.
- The 31-year-old left-back has battled several serious injuries in recent years but keeps bouncing back stronger.
Paseka “Computer” Mako has made Kaizer Chiefs’ 22-man squad for their CAF Confederation Cup clash against Al Masry in Egypt.
It’s been 58 days since the left-back limped off in the 82nd minute of a 1–1 draw with Marumo Gallants – and many feared it would be another long layoff.
But now, the 31-year-old is back. And if there’s one thing fans know about Mako, it’s that he never stays down for long.
He broke his arm in pre-season, missed the Netherlands camp, came back to play five matches, and then got injured again against Gallants. That’s just this season.
In 2022, Mako fractured his face and nose after clashing with Orlando Pirates teammate Richard Ofori. Then in 2023, he tore a ligament in his knee while on duty for Bafana Bafana and needed surgery.
Still, he keeps coming back.
Chiefs didn’t say what the latest injury was, but at least it wasn’t as serious as his past ones, according to the club.
Mako joined Amakhosi in June after he was released by Orlando Pirates when they couldn’t agree on a new deal. He signed with Chiefs just one day later.
He’s played for nearly a decade at the top level:
- 60 games for Chippa United, with one goal and seven assists
- 173 games for Orlando Pirates, with two goals and eight assists
- 32 CAF games across both the Confederation Cup and Champions League
Chiefs face Al Masry on Sunday at 18:00.
