Live Amp to go dead

The SABC has dropped the iconic Friday music show Live Amp previously known as simply ’Live’, which first aired on SABC 1 in 2007.

The show launched many personalities into stardom including Andile Ncube, T’bo Touch, Minenhle Dlamini and Bonang Matheba. They have since gone on to become big brands and have hosted radio shows on different prominent radio stations.

Live Amp will start airing its last season on Friday, 9 July.

The last episode is expected around the festive season as SABC 1 usually airs just over 20 episodes for every season.

The decision, which was said to have been forced by declining ratings, did not go down without causing a scene on Twitter.

Some people suggested that the last season be presented by Bonang as an honour. The last season, Season 24, was hosted by Dj Speedsta and DJ Lamiez Holworthy.

But SABC 1 said the pair Speedsta and Lamiez will continue hosting the show. “Back for the last dance,” announced the channel tagging both presenters on the post.

The last season will be themed “The Last Dance” still covering the latest music videos and hosting big music artists and DJs who play live mixes.
