The MEC for Social Development in Limpopo, Nandi Ndalane, and her protectors survived a car accident early on Wednesday morning, 11 January.
The incident took place around 7am on the R511 en route to Thabazimbi, where she was on official duty to monitor the reopening of schools in the Waterberg District Municipality.
MECs and the province’s premier Stanley Mathabatha were visiting Limpopo’s five districts on 2023’s first day of school for inland provinces.
Department for Social Development spokesperson, Adele van der Linde, confirmed that Ndalane, her driver and her protector, received medical attention at a local hospital.
“They will be closely monitored for the next 24 hours,” she said in a statement.
Transport and Community Safety spokesperson, Tidimalo Chuene, confirmed that the MEC’s BMW X4 lost control and overturned, saying she had sustained “moderate to serious injuries which are not life threatening”. Her driver and protector have sustained minor injuries.
Ndalane is the second MEC in the province who survived a car crash recently. On 1 December MEC for Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure, Nkakareng Rakgoale was also involved in an accident with her protectors on the R529 road between Lebowakgomo and Jane Furse. They were unharmed.
