LIMPOPO SECRETS: Thabiso Sekhula says South Africa continues to produce inspiring stories of hope even during some of the toughest times for humanity.
We’ve all been feeling helpless for the past few too many years and it sometimes feels like there’s no end to the suffering.
But let your faith be renewed in that even in the worst of times, the smallest of actions can lead to the most amazing results.
In my village, teens who have finished school but cannot go to university because of multiple challenges are offering tutoring services to younger kids. The teens have found a way to make some money while building their CVs with some relevant experience.
It’s kids like these who grow to be celebrated entrepreneurs like Drip footwear founder, Lekau Sehoana.
During one of the toughest times for humanity and the country, South Africa has managed to produce inspiring stories of hope and perseverance. The 33-year-old from Ivory Park has openly spoken about his rise from poverty to the ownership of a company named in the top 100 brands in all of Africa, with almost 20 stores all over the country and over 100 employees.
And in rural Sekhukhune in Limpopo, a mother and daughter duo have turned traditional tea making into a big business that has brought new life to tea and the tourism industry in the area.
They are creating employment for a community from practices passed down from generation to generation. And in a few years they’ve managed to take Sepedi culture to the world, showcasing their range of teas at the Tourism Indaba and managing to get their tea stocked at big retail stores countrywide.
When you look at all these successes, it’s easy to doubt that you could have the same success, right? But another thing the pandemic has shown us through social media apps is that everyone can make it big. That we all have special skills and talents that can turn us into overnight superstars.
Khanyisa Jaceni was just a girl with a unique voice and belly-laugh funny jokes two years ago. And now her voice has earned her features on top celebrated hits with big artists in the country. She’s been nominated at the South African Music Awards (SAMAs) for being a breakout internet star. All because she put herself out there and wasn’t afraid.
It’s clear no one is coming to save us. Each one teach one – for those who can, help support small businesses so they can thrive.
Let’s turn everyone into a Lekau Sehoane.
