Media personality Pabi Moloi is embroiled in a legal battle with her child’s father who also claims to have married her in 2016.
At the centre of the legal battle is the question over the legality of their marriage and the split of Moloi’s multimillion-rand estate, which includes six houses in Johannesburg.
Sunday World reports that the estate includes a house in Broadacres in Fourways; a house in
Noordwyk, Midrand; a house in Elton Hill and in Edenburg in Sandton; and two houses in Waverley. The estate also includes a white Jeep Cherokee, a grey Suzuki, household furniture, as well as her shares, investments, and savings.
Moloi has refuted her ex’s claims that they were married in community of property and says that he is not entitled to half of her wealth.
The television celebrity has submitted paperwork to the Johannesburg court in which she claims that she and Ruan Adams, who is the father of her baby, were never married.
In the court papers, she said Adams was extremely possessive and jealous of her, which caused her emotional distress. She also alleged that he financially abused her, harassed her and embarrassed her both privately and in public.
According to the papers, Moloi said, “The plaintiff would, without just cause, question the paternity of the child born to both parties.”
In the court papers seen by Sunday World, Moloi said she no longer cares about Adams and that they haven’t had sex in over five years.
She said that Adams used suicide threats in an effort to control and abuse her. And during a heated exchange on 30 May 2016, she claimed, Adams requested his R25,000 lobola returned.
“The plaintiff acted in an emotional, unregulated manner throughout the relationship between the parties, displayed severe mood swings and subjected the defendant to unprovoked aggressive and destructive outbursts, and later in some instances displayed aggressive and destructive outbursts in front of the child,” she said in court papers.
Adams, who claimed that they were married on 30 April 2016, wrote a letter to Moloi informing her that he wanted to dissolve their “marriage”.
He also wrote that he was entitled to half of their sizable estate because their customary union was recognised by law as a marriage in community of property.
He also demanded R8,500 in spousal maintenance each month.
