- Former Gomora actress Leera Mthethwa says three men tried to rob her at gunpoint during a morning run in her neighbourhood at about 7:30am.
- Mthethwa says she screamed and fought back when the men grabbed her, which scared them and made them run back to their car and drive away.
Former Gomora actress Leera Mthethwa says she is still shaken after she was almost robbed at gunpoint while jogging near her home.
Mthethwa shared the scary moment in a video on her Instagram account.
She said the incident happened during an early morning run in her neighbourhood.
“I am in such great disbelief and shock. I was almost mugged in the area I live in by three young guys, at gunpoint. Such a thing has never happened to me,” she said.
Mthethwa said the men arrived in a gold sedan that looked like a Toyota Corolla often used for ride hailing services.
She noticed that the car did not have a visible registration number.
The actress said the incident happened at about 7:30am while she was finishing the last part of her run.
“It was around half past seven. I’m on my run. I’m trying to get the last 500 metres in so I can reach seven kilometres,” she said.
According to Mthethwa, three men got out of the car and approached her.
She said they grabbed her and tried to steal her watch and phone.
“The first one took out a gun. I started screaming when I saw them try to take my watch and grab me to reach for my phone,” she said.
Mthethwa said her reaction shocked the suspects.
“I started screaming and pulling away from them. These guys just ran back into the car and drove off,” she said.
She said the incident left her deeply shaken.
Mthethwa said something like this had never happened to her before.
The actress did not say if the incident was reported to police.
