The medical parole conditions of former president Jacob Zuma have forced taxi bosses to cancel the traditional event at Nkandla after they learnt that he wouldn’t be able to attend it.
On Sunday hundreds of people went to Nkandla to watch the Ingoma Music Festival with the hope that Zuma would attend but they were met with disappointment after the event was cancelled.
Those who are close to Zuma didn’t go home but went straight to his kwaDakwadunuse home where they were able to meet him.
“We were disappointed but we managed to spend time with Nxamalala, who was in a jovial mood,” a friend of Zuma’s who did not wish to be named told Scrolla.Africa.
“We were very happy to see him and he also clarified that the parole conditions do not allow him to be anywhere because he might find himself being arrested again.
Mavava Sikhakhane, who was one of the organisers, couldn’t be reached for comment.
Mzwanele Manyi of the Jacob Zuma Foundation told Scrolla.Africa that Zuma has not been able to attend any events as he is still a prisoner.
“We had concerns about the Pretoria High Court judgement which stated that his parole won’t count as days served because they think he is on holiday while he is still serving his sentence,” said Manyi.
Zuma was unable to host his annual Christmas soccer competition and the picnic held on 27 December at his village due to the parole conditions.
