Two KwaZulu-Natal ANC delegates who were driving back home from the party’s 55th national conference in Nasrec died in a car accident on Tuesday night.
The Mercedes Benz ML they were travelling in was involved in an accident with a horse trailer truck.
Scrolla.Africa has learned that Women’s League chairman for the Mzala Nxumalo region, Nkosikhona Mdlalose and the son of former regional chair Khaya Khumalo, whose name has not yet been released, met their demise in Piet Retief, Mpumalanga.
The owner of the Mercedes Benz ML, regional executive member Lucia Ntuli, is fighting for her life in hospital.
Mzala Nxumalo regional spokesperson Mnamathi Gumbi told Scrolla.Africa it was too early to discuss the details of the accident as they were still to meet the deceased families.
“I can confirm that our comrades perished in a road accident that happened in Mpumalanga province while driving back home from the ANC 55th elective conference that was held in Nasrec. It is painful but we are still going to meet the family. I went to the accident scene last night and it was indeed our comrade who died there,” said Gumbi.
A video of the deceased where they were in a jovial mood at the conference with other delegates was shared on social media platforms soon after the news of their accident emerged.
Mzala Nxumalo region is among KZN regions that were supporting President Cyril Ramaphosa to take a second term.
Some delegates of the party told Scrolla.Africa on record in Nasrec that the victory of Ramaphosa was a blessing in disguise because they were facing the chop from Dr Zweli Mkhize forces.
Among them was Lawrence Dube who once took the KZN ANC to court to challenge the outcome of the 2015 provincial elective conference results that were against Senzo Mchunu.
