Celani Sikhakhane brings you the latest KwaZulu-Natal news.

Richards Bay – The traditional prime minister to the Zulu monarch, Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, has praised the police for arresting Prince Lungalomndeni Zulu in connection with a mineral theft syndicate worth R26-million. Prince Lungalomndeni, from the kwaZiphethe royal house, is a prominent supporter of Prince Simakade kaZwelithini, who has challenged King Misuzulu kaZwelithini for the throne. He was arrested along with six associates. Buthelezi, who also serves as the KZN MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, said the arrests showed that law enforcement was gaining ground against criminal groups threatening communities dependent on Richards Bay Minerals. “It is clear that the South African Police Service now has the upper hand against the criminal syndicate of Prince Lungalomndeni, which has caused considerable harm to the economy of our province,” he said.

Harry Gwala District – ANC politicians are stepping in to help matric learners prepare for their final exams in the region. The programme begins on Wednesday, 16 October, with ANC provincial secretary Bheki Mtolo joining local leaders to visit schools. ANC spokesperson Mafika Mndebele urged parents, governing bodies and communities to work with law enforcement to ensure the safety of learners, especially those studying late at night.

Ladysmith – Parents at Dr Joseph Shabalala High School disrupted classes, accusing the principal of misusing funds. Police had to escort the principal out of the school to prevent further unrest.

Vryheid – The ANC in Abaqulusi local municipality has filed a vote of no confidence against the speaker, Nonkululeko Ndlela, accusing her of failing in her duties. This comes after a similar motion was filed in eNdumeni municipality, where the ANC seeks the speaker’s removal for failing to call council meetings.
