Celani Sikhakhane brings you KwaZulu-Natal’s latest news.
Nongoma: The Zulu King says no one should judge him for being a stepfather because he follows his heart when he wed Queen Nomzamo kaMyeni. His Majesty made the remarks for the first time at his wedding that was held on Sunday at kwaKhangela Amankengane Royal Palace in Nongoma, north of KwaZulu-Natal. He says he had enough of people who judge him on social media pages. “I have seen people on social media complaining that I am a stepfather just because Queen Nomzamo has children of her own. Let me tell you, I don’t care. Even if her family gave me something I didn’t expect, I will fix it by myself,” said His Majesty. He also complained about some royal family members who boycotted their wedding.
Durban: A high-level delegation led by Co-Chairs of the eThekwini Presidential Working Group Director-General in the Presidency Phindile Baleni and Mike Mabuyakhulu conducted an inspection on Thursday of major service delivery projects underway in the city. The delegation visited the Moses Mabhida Stadium, Rivertown Precinct, Phoenix Industrial Park, the uMlazi Canal and the Southern Aqueduct. The establishment of the working group was a result of meetings between the President and the Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry to address pressing challenges such as water supply interruptions, ageing infrastructure, declining tourism, crime and port inefficiencies. Among the flagship projects under the working group’s oversight is the uMlazi Canal Flood Alleviation Scheme, a vital flood mitigation project protecting the South Durban Basin’s industrial hub. Following the working group’s intervention, Transnet accepted ownership of the canal and undertook repairs which are 81% complete.
KwaMadlala: KZN Premier Thami Ntuli has roped in traditional leaders in the province to fight crime along with law enforcement ahead of the festive season. Ntuli says that as part of ongoing safety month and integrated safer festive season plan interventions, he will convene the KZN Council Against Crime, a high-level multi-sectoral platform bringing together government, law enforcement, traditional leaders, business, faith-based organisations and civil society to consolidate strategies aimed at defeating the scourge of crime and restoring safety in communities across KwaZulu-Natal. The Council is set to take place this coming Friday at kwaMadlala Village in Port Shepstone.
