KZN news bites: Stolen Durban car caught heading to Mozambique

Manguzi: People in Manguzi are shocked after finding a stolen car at the border as it was heading to Mozambique. Community members say the vehicle was stolen in Durban but the owner hasn’t been found yet. The Manguzi border is still a gateway for criminals who steal cars in South Africa. In most cases, they target bakkies and Toyota vehicles and take them to Mozambique.

Durban: Police in KwaZulu-Natal have arrested 10,872 suspects for various crimes. According to police, contact crimes remain high, with 3,278 suspects arrested, 1,559 of them arrested for assault with intent to cause serious harm and 197 for murder. Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit arrested 207 suspects for rape and 19 suspects were arrested for sexual offences.

Greyville: Various police and security agencies will be on high alert at the Hollywoodbets Durban July at Greyville Racecourse on Saturday, 5 July 2025. Planning between police, event organizers and other security agencies has been ongoing for weeks. A proactive approach, which resulted in successful events previously, has been adopted for this event. Police officers and other personnel will be deployed in and around the stadium as well as around the city to tackle problems which might disrupt the event.
