Park Rynie: More than 12 motorists earned themselves criminal records after their conviction for speeding and reckless driving on KZN roads.
This comes after the arrest of Yusuf Ismail, who fled from RTI and left behind his identity document.
He appeared in court on Wednesday. He was arrested for clocking 204 km/h in a 120 km/h zone.
He will reappear in court on 18 March for plea and sentencing.
MEC for Transport and Human Settlements in KZN, Siboniso Duma, says Ismail was traced and nabbed by RTI while hiding at a golf estate on the South Coast.
“This follows a meticulous investigation, which included the analysis of video footage and the use of advanced technology,” said Duma.
Duma says they are augmenting the work of their No Nonsense RTI Park Rynie team, which is executing the #NenzaniLaEzweni Operations with precision.
Durban: An intelligence-driven operation in Sydenham led to the arrest of 14 suspects and the confiscation of counterfeit merchandise worth R27 million.
The joint multi-disciplinary operation was conducted along Felix Dlamini Road by the Durban Metro Police together with partnering law enforcement stakeholders.
The operation forms part of ongoing efforts to eradicate the mushrooming of illegal business operations, unlawful housing and trading activities, illicit trade, counterfeit goods, contraband, and immigration-related offences.
During the operation, law enforcement officers recovered and seized approximately 14 million cell-phone accessories with an estimated street value of R27 million.
Metro Police spokesperson Colonel Boysie Zungu confirmed the seizure of the illegal items and stated that 14 individuals were found to be in contravention of the Immigration Act.
He says these foreign nationals will be assessed by the Department of Home Affairs to determine the validity of their documentation.
“If you follow our trail in infiltrating illegal drug use, businesses and ensuring by-law enforcement throughout the City, we are immensely elated at the major strides we’ve taken in partnering with provincial and national law enforcement institutions,” said Zungu.
KwaDukuza: DA KwaDukuza mayoral candidate Privi Makha says that reliable electricity is not a luxury but safety and economic survival.
“We will prioritise upgrading of all aging substations. We will invest in preventative maintenance, and we will professionalise the departments so qualified technicians are leading key infrastructure departments, not political deployees,” she said.
Makha further stated that they will fast-track alternative energy solutions to reduce pressure on the grid and protect residents from unnecessary outages.
“Most importantly, we will ensure that blocked capital projects like the 240-million-rand Dukuza Substation get underway immediately, the time for excuses related to unreliable electricity must come to an end. Businesses in Ballito, KwaDukuza CBD and Shakaskraal simply cannot grow if the lights keep going out,” said Makha.
