Vryheid: Men in the South African Police Service under the Zululand District have warned communities against the abuse of women and children, believing it contributes to high crime rates and other social ills. This emerged on Thursday during the celebration of Women’s Month, which was held in Vryheid. The event started with a march where police were joined by community members and traditional leaders.
Mtubatuba: The Mtubatuba Regional Court has sentenced Nkosinathi Mtshali, 29, to life imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to the murder of his partner in April 2024 in the Nibela area near Hluhluwe. Mtshali and the victim, Sanele Buthelezi, 26, were in a relationship with each other. On 23 April 2024, Mtshali went to Buthelezi’s homestead and they quarrelled. He threatened to kill her after she broke up with him. Mtshali, who was armed with a knife, stabbed her multiple times in her chest and neck while she was in her room. He then left her there, bleeding, and went to the police, where he handed himself over. He also handed over the blood-stained knife he had used to stab Buthelezi.
uMkhanyakude: Umkhanyakude District Police Task Team officers have arrested five suspects for possession of firearms and ammunition without a licence, possession of property suspected to be stolen and possession of game meat at Mnqobokazi area in Hluhluwe on 30 July 2025. Police conducted an intelligence-driven operation which resulted in the arrest of the five suspects aged between 29 and 46 years old who were terrorising the community of Umkhanyakude District by stealing, illegal hunting, killing and poaching of animals in the game reserves. During the operation, police raided different homes and arrested four men and one woman who was found in possession of a shotgun and ammunition without a licence.
