KZN news bites: Mayor Nhaca wants Mbalula’s help 

Sihle Mavuso presents the latest news from KwaZulu-Natal. 

KwaDukuza – Mayor Lindiwe Nhaca wants ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula to help her stay in her position, while ANC provincial secretary Bheki Mtolo tries to remove her. Over the weekend, Nhaca wrote to Mbalula, asking for a fair process before she is forced out. The ANC Women’s League and Youth League are supporting Nhaca and standing by her in this conflict.

Pietermaritzburg – Teachers in KwaZulu-Natal are upset after noticing unauthorised R100 deductions from their payslips by a company called RAM. The teachers say they don’t owe any money to this company and are asking the Department of Education to investigate what they believe are fraudulent deductions.

Ntuzuma – Despite promises from the eThekwini Municipality and Umngeni-Uthukela Water to fix the water supply, many northern areas, including Ntuzuma, Lindelani, and Newlands, have now been without water for three weeks.

Estcourt – Preparations are being made for a mass funeral for six members of the MK party who died in a car accident on their way to Nkandla on Saturday. The accident happened at the dangerous Ntunjambili bends, and all the victims were from Estcourt.

Dumbe – The South African Local Government Association (SALGA) is mourning the death of John Khumalo, the municipal manager of the eDumbe Local Municipality, who died in a car accident near Vryheid last week. SALGA praised Khumalo as a dedicated official who cared deeply about his community.
