Pietermaritzburg: EFF President Julius Malema has taken a swipe at Phakelumthakathi Ndabandaba and Ngizwe Mchunu, saying they will never stop him from campaigning in KwaZulu-Natal.
Malema was speaking at the EFF’s Ground Forces Forum in Pietermaritzburg over the weekend, where he said he was the one who took the ANC into IFP strongholds during his time in the ANC Youth League. He said no one could stop him from campaigning in KZN.
Malema has clashed with Ngizwe Mchunu and Phakelumthakathi after they accused him of receiving money from Nigerian drug dealers in exchange for protecting them in South Africa. Malema took the matter to court, resulting in Mchunu being found guilty of contempt and issuing a public apology to avoid a jail term. Malema has visited KZN twice this month, having also addressed the EFF’s ground forces in Durban as the party prepares for the upcoming local government elections.
Nongoma: Police in KwaZulu-Natal are appealing to Zamani Bhekisimo Qoma to hand himself in at the nearest police station to assist in the investigation into a double murder and four counts of attempted murder in the KwaMusi area in September 2024.
On the evening of 7 September 2024, six men were seated under a tree drinking when they were allegedly ambushed by unknown suspects who opened fire. Mthokozisi Mchunu, 35, died at the scene, while Sandile Ngubo, 40, died after being taken to a local health facility. Four others survived with gunshot injuries. Police investigations have identified Qoma as a person of interest. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact Investigating Officer Warrant Officer Mbatha on 076 525 1793.
uMzimkhulu: MEC for Human Settlements and Transport Siboniso Duma has announced the completion of the uMzimkhulu River Bridge.
“We wish to announce that engineers have completed the jacking of the uMzimkhulu River Bridge. Once again, we thank the people of Ugu District and Ray Nkonyeni Local Municipality in particular for walking with us on this journey. As we stated in the past, working together, we will overcome all challenges and eventually usher in a new era of prosperity. The contractor and workers in particular have doubled their efforts as guided by the work acceleration plan,” Duma said.
