Hillcrest: Former Member of Parliament Dr Makhosi Khoza has described her Durban High Court victory against the City of eThekwini as a turning point for widows and vulnerable people silenced by corruption.
Dr Khoza made the remarks after Judge Zaba Nkosi instructed the City of eThekwini to address her concerns within 30 days, after her business and property in Hillcrest, west of Durban, were flooded by water from the eThekwini pipeline on 28 separate occasions.
“On 19 August 2026, Justice Nkosi of the High Court delivered what I regard as the most meaningful gift of Women’s Month. He placed fairness and justice above technicalities, directing eThekwini Municipality to address my concerns within 30 days and ensuring accountability through oversight. He affirmed that widows and all vulnerable citizens deserve justice like everybody else, and every South African who has been silenced by corruption and neglect,” Dr Khoza said.
Dr Khoza became a widow at the age of 28 in 1998, after the death of her husband, Ntela Richard Sikhosana.
Mnambithi: The Ezakheni Regional Court in Mnambithi, KZN Midlands, has sentenced Bahle Dlamini, 33, and Siyabonga Dube, 31, to life imprisonment following their conviction on charges of murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and two counts of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
The convictions stem from an incident on 15 June 2023 in the Roosboom area near Ladysmith. A bakery delivery driver and his colleague, Sbonelo Xulu, were delivering bread to a supermarket when they were confronted by Dlamini and Dube, both armed. Xulu was fatally shot during the robbery. The surviving driver was forced to drive the accused to another location before they fled with cellphones and cash belonging to both men. Police arrested the pair later that day at a local taxi rank, recovering the stolen items along with two unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Cato Manor: Police in KwaZulu-Natal have launched a manhunt after suspects opened fire on officers during a stop-and-search operation on Monday night, injuring two people already under arrest.
Police in Cato Manor were conducting routine crime prevention duties when they spotted a silver Toyota Etios parked at Bonela Sports Field along Raymond Road. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of an AK-47 assault rifle and four loaded magazines, and the two occupants were arrested. While driving the suspects to a police station along Dunbar Road, officers were followed by a white Toyota Double Cab and a white Toyota Corolla Cross. The arrested suspects warned police that the occupants of those vehicles intended to open fire, and that they had been waiting for the delivery of another AK-47 for a planned cash-in-transit robbery on Tuesday, 25 August. Police sped off but came under heavy gunfire; the presence of members of the public prevented them from returning fire, and officers instead drove to safety at a nearby police station. The two arrested suspects sustained gunshot wounds and are recovering in hospital under police guard.
