Pietermaritzburg: The Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Thamsanqa Ntuli, has formally concurred with the renewal of the contract of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, for a second term, following a meeting with the South African Police Service National Commissioner, General Fannie Masemola.
The meeting focused on discussions regarding the future of Lieutenant-General Mkhwanazi, whose current term of office is due to conclude on 30 March 2026.
During the engagement, Premier Ntuli expressed firm confidence in the leadership, professionalism, and ethical standards demonstrated by Lieutenant-General Mkhwanazi throughout his tenure as Provincial Commissioner.
The Premier emphasised that effective and stable leadership within the SAPS remains critical to the safety, stability, and socio-economic development of KwaZulu-Natal, particularly in light of the province’s complex and persistent crime challenges.
Lieutenant-General Mkhwanazi has earned widespread recognition for his decisive and hands-on approach to policing, as well as for strengthening operational coordination within the SAPS and with other law enforcement agencies.
Durban: The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal has requested a special meeting with the leadership of the National Freedom Party (NFP) to discuss their decision to withdraw from the Government of Provincial Unity.
In a letter sent this week, ANC provincial coordinator Mike Mabuyakhulu stated that they want to discuss this matter, as it has serious implications for the governance of the province.
Mabuyakhulu also told the NFP that the ANC is open to discussing any matters with them that deserve their attention.
Pietermaritzburg: KZN Health MEC Nomagugu Simelane-Mngadi has announced the official opening of the online application process for Pharmacy Interns and Psychologist Interns, which started on Thursday, 8 January 2026.
“Prospective applicants will be able to access and submit all required forms via the department’s official website, starting tomorrow. This recruitment is a crucial step in strengthening our health system and securing the skills our province needs,” she said.
The recruitment follows the MEC’s announcement this week regarding the successful reprioritisation of national funding to address critical staffing challenges. This intervention is designed to stabilise essential training pipelines and enhance pharmaceutical and psychological services in public facilities.
