Newcastle – The police officer fired for plotting to kill uMzinyathi District Commissioner Major General Francis Slambert will be sentenced on Wednesday. Captain Roshanel Banawo was kicked out of the SAPS in 2021 after drugs were found in his flat during an internal probe. KZN Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi said he will attend Banawo’s sentencing.
KwaBhidla – The Democratic Alliance is outraged over claims that a traditional leader raped an 18-year-old woman in KwaZulu-Natal. The 54-year-old Inkosi is said to have committed the act while pretending to help her. He has not yet applied for bail. “Traditional leaders are trusted to protect their people. This disgusting act, committed by someone meant to lead, is a shocking abuse of power and dignity,” the DA said.
Msunduzi – The Mayor of Msunduzi, Mzi Thebolla, says a planned public screening of the Nedbank Cup Final was cancelled at the last minute. He told a local radio station the service provider ditched them an hour before the game, saying he had taken a booking from another municipality. The mayor said the plan was to set up screens at a fan park for locals to enjoy the match.
