KZN news bites: Dlamini-Zuma warned Mthethwa not to leave wife behind

Celani Sikhakhane brings you KwaZulu-Natal’s latest news.

KwaMbonambi: Former Cabinet Minister and ANC stalwart Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma told Nathi Mthethwa’s family that when he got the Ambassador’s post to France he wanted to leave his wife Philisiwe Buthelezi in South Africa but she advised him against that decision. Dr Dlamini-Zuma made the revelations during the ANC visit to the Mthethwa family at kwaMbonambi village outside Richards Bay. She said her advice was based on her experience where a lot of ambassadors from South Africa have died alone in foreign countries without their wives. “I told him that when I was the Minister of Foreign Affairs, I buried many SA ambassadors who died alone without their wives in countries where they were posted to represent our South Africa. Fortunately Mthethwa heeded my advice and flew to France with his wife,” said Dlamini-Zuma.

Durban: KZN Premier Thami Ntuli has suspended one of the senior officials in the Department of Transport over the R672-million public transport tender corruption. The announcement was made on Friday at a media briefing held in Durban. He also revealed that he has authorised the referral of the investigation on the Department of Health corruption in the Medico Legal Claims to the Special Investigating Unit. He says the SIU, already mandated by Proclamation R74 of 2022 to investigate similar cases in national and provincial health departments, will incorporate these reports into its ongoing work.

Howick: The relative of former President Jacob Zuma, Chief Simphiwe Zuma, was denied bail by Howick Magistrate Donna Sindane on Friday on the murder case of DA Chief Whip Nhlalayenza Ndlovu of uMngeni Local Municipality. Sindane cited concerns with his release, saying he would possibly cause chaos and pose a threat to the state witness. In a separate murder case in Impendle where he had received bail for the alleged murder of his cousin, the state has made an application that that bail is also withdrawn. He is due back in court on 09 October 2025 for a judgment on that matter.
