Durban – Police have caught a man who hijacked two off-duty police officers and stole their guns in Durban. The 34-year-old suspect was arrested in Inanda after hijacking the officers at gunpoint on Thursday evening in Avoca Hills. A team from Greenwood Park Crime Prevention, Durban North Task Team, Newlands Trio Task Team and private security officials tracked him down at Newton A in Inanda. When they caught him, he had the officers’ two guns and 30 bullets. Police also found two more illegal guns with 12 bullets in his house. The hijacked car was also recovered. The suspect will appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Ulundi – Cogta MEC Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi met with AMCU President Joseph Mathunjwa on Tuesday to discuss saving hundreds of jobs at ZAC Mine in Ulundi. The mine supports thousands of households in the Zululand District. Buthelezi promised to support efforts to stop the mine’s closure and called for the government and the Ingonyama Trust to help find solutions.
Nseleni – Workers and school children in Nseleni near Richards Bay can’t travel as Zululand Bus Service drivers protest about working conditions. Transport MEC Siboniso Duma has asked both sides to calm down and find a solution to avoid more problems for communities.
Newcastle – A Madadeni court has given life sentence imprisonment to a 24-year-old man who raped his grandmother’s 11-year-old granddaughter in November 2023. He sexually molested the girl twice when they were alone at home and threatened to hurt her if she told anyone. She reported him after deciding she couldn’t face another day alone with him.
