Durban: KwaZulu-Natal Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi has given former Zulu royal chancellor Inkosi Malusi Zondi a certificate of recognition to represent King Misuzulu kaZwelithini in hostels. Buthelezi told Zondi at a meeting in Durban on Tuesday that his new role is to oversee hostels in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng on behalf of the King. Zondi will be based at eMbelebeleni Royal Palace at KwaMashu Hostel, north of Durban. This comes after complaints over delays in recognising Zondi as the inkosi of his clan. Some people also noted that the certificate refers to him by his first name and not as Inkosi.

Brighton Beach: The Durban Magistrate’s Court has sentenced a 36-year-old man to life imprisonment for raping his 12-year-old neighbour. The court heard that on 31 December 2021, the man lured the girl to his flat and raped her. The girl did not report the attack at first. Her mother later overheard her telling a friend what had happened and reported the matter to police.

Port Shepstone: The National Prosecuting Authority has welcomed the life sentence handed to a 45-year-old man by the Port Shepstone Regional Court for raping an 11-year-old girl in Boboyi in 2022. The court heard that the girl’s mother noticed physical changes in her daughter. The child later disclosed that she had been raped between March and May 2022. The accused also threatened the girl and her family. He was declared unfit to possess a firearm. The court also ordered that his name be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders.
