KZN news bites: American singer Jacquees surprises uMlazi hostel with visit

Celani Sikhakhane brings you KwaZulu-Natal’s latest news.

uMlazi: The notorious uMlazi hostel known as Seventeen in the south of Durban that is dominated by Maskandi music was surprised by the unexpected visit of American singer and songwriter Rodriquez Jacquees Broadnax over the weekend where he even recorded his music video. Jacquees was accompanied by the uMlazi-born rapper and songwriter Omuhleumnguni Simamane. Jacquees visited many places in Durban. He had come to visit the hometown of one of his friends Simamane, who said he would take him to see where he grew up playing soccer. The Seventeen hostel made headlines 10 years ago after the men of that hostel forced a woman to take off her pants as they claimed that women were not allowed to wear pants in that section of uMlazi Township.

Durban: The South African Weather Service has issued a Yellow Level 4 warning for severe thunderstorms over parts of KZN on Monday. Heavy downpours, damaging winds, hail and excessive lightning may lead to flooding, infrastructure damage and dangerous travel conditions. Residents are urged to stay alert, avoid flooded roads and take necessary safety precautions.

Impendle: Impendle Municipality has been plunged into political turmoil following the abrupt suspension of newly elected Mayor Kwenzakufani Dlamini, Speaker Zibuse Dlamini and two other councillors by the ANC’s provincial task team. The dramatic intervention came just days after the council elected its new office-bearers, triggering fresh instability in the rural municipality. The suspensions followed a council meeting held last Friday, during which the Dlaminis were elected shortly after a briefing by senior task team leaders, including Jeff Radebe, Weziwe Thusi and Zet Luzipho.
