A prominent photographer has given up his job for a career in politics.

Siphiwe Moyo is among the 37 Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party members sworn into the KwaZulu-Natal legislature in Pietermaritzburg.

Moyo, from Newcastle, once worked at the KZN health department under MEC Nomagugu Simelane-Mngadi.

He has decided to quit his job and pass it on to his son.

“The legislature’s work is a calling, a dedication to our people. That’s why I’ve chosen to step away from my career as a photographer. I’ve entrusted the business to my son, as I embark on this new journey,” said Moyo, emphasising his commitment to public service.

The MK party has included people from different backgrounds in the legislature.

Among them is Phumlani Mfeka, the controversial leader of the Injeje Yabenguni Civil Organisation, Dr Kwazi Mbanjwa, former KZN director-general and adviser to former president and current MK leader Jacob Zuma, Inkosi Phathisizwe Chiliza, the deputy traditional prime minister to the Zulu king, and uMsinga businessman Smanga Mabaso.
